It was 1989 and my mom became a new grandmawith the birth of my nephew. My Mom was in love with being a grandma, and I jokingly said, “mom you should open a store and call it Grandma’s House and have all the wonderful grandma and grandchildren things in it”
We talked about the idea over the years and in 1993 we decided to see what we could create. We tried buying gifts to resell, but when I wrote a poem I titled “Grandma’s Heart”, we found our direction. I am not sure what made me think I could write something people would like or be able to relate to 😊, but I could see what was missing for Grandmas.It was the emotion of being a Grandma- not the title, but the heart of grandma.
Grandma’s Heart became an instant hit as we sold matted prints of the poem to baby and gift stores. Store owners told us grandmothers would cry reading the poem. I witnessed it myself as I set up at local boutiques and trunk shows. I was soon asked to write more poems and along list followed.
